Afterthoughts (com.reellog.app) — Effective date: March 14, 2026
Sriram Devarapu (“Developer,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) built Afterthoughts (“the App”) as a personal movie and TV show journaling application. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your information when you use the App. By using Afterthoughts, you agree to the practices described in this policy.
We aim to collect only the minimum information necessary for the App to function.
- Authentication data (optional): If you choose to sign in using Google Sign-In or Apple Sign-In via Firebase Authentication, we receive limited profile information provided by those services (such as your name, email address, and unique account identifier). Sign-in is entirely optional and is used solely to enable cloud sync of your reviews.
- Review and rating data: The movie and TV show reviews, ratings, and watchlist entries you create within the App.
- TMDB identifiers: When you use the recommendation feature, the App sends TMDB content IDs and your associated ratings to our recommendation service. No personally identifiable information is included in these requests.
We do not collect analytics, usage statistics, device identifiers, location data, or any form of tracking data. We do not display advertisements.
2. Data Storage
- Local storage: All reviews, ratings, and watchlist entries are stored locally on your device using Apple’s SwiftData framework. This data remains on your device and is under your control at all times.
- Cloud sync (optional): If you sign in with Google or Apple, your review data is synced to Firebase Firestore, a cloud database operated by Google, to enable access across your devices. You may sign out at any time to stop cloud syncing. You may also request deletion of your cloud-stored data by contacting us.
3. Third-Party Services
The App integrates with the following third-party services. Each service has its own privacy policy, and we encourage you to review them:
- Firebase Authentication & Firestore (Google): Used for optional user authentication and cloud data sync. Firebase Privacy Policy
- The Movie Database (TMDB) API: Used to search for and retrieve movie and TV show information. No user data is sent to TMDB. TMDB Privacy Policy
- OMDb API: Used to retrieve Rotten Tomatoes and IMDb scores for content. No user data is sent to OMDb. OMDb Terms
- Custom Recommendation API (Google Cloud Run): A service hosted by the Developer that receives TMDB content IDs and your ratings to generate personalized recommendations. No personally identifiable information is transmitted.

4. Data Security
We take reasonable measures to protect your information. Local data is secured by your device’s built-in security features (passcode, Face ID, Touch ID). Cloud-synced data is transmitted over encrypted connections (HTTPS/TLS) and stored in Firebase Firestore, which provides industry-standard security measures including encryption at rest.
While we strive to protect your data, no method of electronic storage or transmission is 100% secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security.
5. Your Rights (GDPR & Applicable Law)
If you are located in the European Economic Area (EEA), the United Kingdom, or another jurisdiction with applicable data protection laws, you have certain rights regarding your personal data, including:
- Access: You may request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
- Correction: You may request correction of inaccurate data.
- Deletion: You may request deletion of your personal data. You can delete local data by removing the App from your device. For cloud-synced data, contact us at the email below.
- Data portability: You may request your data in a structured, commonly used format.
- Withdrawal of consent: You may withdraw consent for cloud sync at any time by signing out of the App.
To exercise any of these rights, please contact us using the information provided below. We will respond to your request within 30 days.
6. Data Retention
Local data persists on your device until you delete it or uninstall the App. Cloud-synced data is retained in Firebase Firestore for as long as your account exists. You may request deletion of your cloud data at any time by contacting us.
7. Children’s Privacy
Afterthoughts is not directed at children under the age of 13 (or the applicable age of digital consent in your jurisdiction). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will promptly delete it.
8. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be reflected on this page with an updated effective date. We encourage you to review this policy periodically. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
